Collection: People Australia Magazine

After first being published in 1950 with a focus on news, scandals, and true crime, the Australian magazine People rose to prominence in the 1980s by featuring "average Aussie birds" and becoming the fourth biggest-selling weekly magazine in the country. The 1990s marked a controversial turn as the magazine introduced full nudity to compete with its rival, The Picture, a move that sparked protests and a ban of a particular cover. Despite its efforts to stay relevant by shifting its content, the magazine's popularity dwindled in the 2000s, with sales dropping significantly. After nearly 70 years of publication, the magazine ultimately ceased production at the end of 2019 following its removal from major retail shelves.
